Late Spring Musings
What I made, what inspired me, and what’s currently on the wishlist.
Late spring here is basically just summer in disguise (weather-wise) but I like to hold on to the flowery, romantic feeling just for a little while longer, and the freshness of it all. I feel inspired to paint, drink cortados on little terraces here and there, and dream about what’s to come. The magic of the warmth.
Here you’ll find a mix of paintings I created in the studio this week, as well as a few images from my mood board.
I’ve been getting my hands dirty not only with paint, but with flour too. I baked a few cakes for a few birthday parties, I specially loved this chocolate and lemon curd one, plus a couple of batches of homemade granola that I delivered to friends in small glass jars.
What I Consumed and Loved
Many cups of Earl Grey with milk and honey.
A few films and series, mostly set in the 90s and early 2000s where phones aren’t involved. I’m inspired. Some favourites from the list:
Something’s Gotta Give by Nancy Meyers (I cannot stop thinking about Marin’s beauty, Erica’s looks, and that beach house), Before Sunrise, a revisit of Call Me By Your Name, The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House, and Head Above Water. I’ll be revisiting visual references from a couple of these for a summer edit because I do love the East Coast look, with LL Bean sailor totes and oversized shirts.
This REFY moisturiser with a metal roller applicator that feels lovely for waking up a morning puffy face.
This trench coat from Massimo Dutti.
My favourite vanilla perfume.
A sheer brown nail polish, for my toes too.
My spring playlist for morning stretches and painting sessions. It’s also good for writing as it’s mostly instrumental - I also love this one, The Lié Studio shop soundtrack.
Lavender tea and lavender oil before bed. After an evening shower, I massage it into my arms, neck, chest and behind my ears, then slip into the bedsheets. I’m loving these striped ones I got from Zara Home.
Following on from the oil recommendations, this head gua sha and oil have been great for winding down after working on my laptop, and for easing some of the tension from my aching wisdom teeth (ouch).
What’s on the Wishlist
This hairpin.
This weekend bag in butter yellow.
This Hyeja moisturiser. I’ve heard great things about it.
This pair of sunglasses - Also love this and this, hope I get to try them on this summer in Copenhagen.
I also would love to try the new Tsu Lange Yor scents, especially the fig.
A fringed silk scarf. This Maison Magdalena one is the most beautiful, though I may try to find something similar second-hand.
This body sunscreen. Since they make my favourite facial SPF, I’d love to try the body version for these first days in the sun and at the beach.
This St. Agni mini dress.
This Tekla duvet and pillow cover.
As mentioned above, I’d love an LL Bean tote for beach days, afternoons on friends’ sailboats, or simply carrying things to and from the studio.
A special weekend somewhere, thinking about taking our motorbike and a couple of weekend bags over to Ibiza soon, just a couple of hours away by ferry.
