Written on iPhone Notes, mid-flight to Paris
Just a catch-up!
During the past month-ish I’ve struggled to write while hosting friends at home, travelling, and feeling a bit up and down during the process of finding a new place to rent here on the island. Both my physical journal and Substack haven’t been updated much, but I want to learn to create within the chaos a bit more - following this life motto that I’d set as my secondary screen background for a long time, so I could come back to read it whenever I needed a reminder.
I’m craving an autumnal routine, but while that’s not possible - and before I continue diving into boxes and packing - I wanted to share a few things that have helped me feel better and more centred over the past few days:
Saying yes to work opportunities outside my comfort zone - I can’t share much yet, but a couple of weeks ago I travelled to Madrid to paint something big in a beautiful space. I feel so brave stepping into this right in the heart of the chaos!
My first Paris Fashion Week - (I actually wrote this entry from my plane seat on the way to Orly Airport.) I’ve visited the city often over the past few years, but this is my first time attending Fashion Week, which has been on my list of manifestations for the longest time. Getting a peek into this world still feels surreal - something younger Carla would have never imagined.
The thought of decluttering my home and letting go - We’ve lived in the same flat for the past six years, and things have been piling up: messy drawers filled with old Nicieza Studios prints, samples from Felix’s brand, unknown cables and invoices... I’m looking forward to using this as an excuse to let go - to get rid of objects and garments that no longer align with my best self.
Also, having an excuse to treat myself - and our space - to a few things! This time, I really want to focus on designing a few pieces of furniture myself. I’ll curate an interior wishlist soon.
The idea of a new neighbourhood - Trying out cafés, restaurants, getting familiar with the old man at the bakery, a waiter learning our breakfast order, a fresh route for walks!
Fresh air, of course - opening windows, going for walks, having coffee on the balcony, and enjoying the last ocean dips of the year.
Podcasts - I love how gentle Apricity with Sian Camille is. Perfect for winding down and feeling grounded.
Journalling - I’ve been doing The Moon Lists prompts for many months now; they’re always so special and fun.
Mornings at the flea market with friends - Last week was a success! I found a small goat rug, a vintage cotton pouch (I’m planning to get my initials embroidered on it and keep it in my bag - maybe as a case for my film camera or lip combo), a pair of black riding-style water boots, and a deep red beaded necklace with two tassels that reminded me of something from Le Sundial or Mosquito - and it was only five euros!
Rediscovering an autumn playlist I curated - Play it here, and picture me singing and dancing to these tunes while emptying rooms.
